Emotional Growth

Are You Autistic and Struggling With Your Mental Health?

Being autistic can bring many strengths, including creativity, honesty, attention to detail, and a unique way of experiencing the world. However, living in a world that is not always designed with neurodivergent people in mind can also be exhausting and overwhelming.

You May Be Experiencing:

  • Anxiety, excessive worry, or frequent feelings of overwhelm

  • Low mood or depression

  • Social anxiety or fear of being misunderstood

  • Burnout or emotional exhaustion

  • Feeling overwhelmed by sensory experiences such as noise, light, or busy environments

  • Difficulty managing change, uncertainty, or transitions

  • Struggles with self-esteem or self-acceptance

  • Feeling isolated, different, or disconnected from others

  • Difficulties identifying or expressing emotions

  • Increased stress from masking or trying to meet others' expectations

  • Negative or self-critical thoughts

  • Difficulty balancing work, education, relationships, or everyday responsibilities

  • Feeling misunderstood by family, friends, or professionals

You may have spent years adapting to other people's expectations while feeling that your own needs have been overlooked or misunderstood.

Counselling provides a safe, supportive, and neuro-affirming environment where you can explore your experiences and mental health in a way that respects your individuality.

Through Counselling, I Can Help You To:

  • Understand and manage anxiety, stress, or low mood

  • Explore the impact of masking and autistic burnout

  • Develop greater self-acceptance and confidence

  • Learn ways to manage overwhelm and emotional stress

  • Understand and communicate your needs more effectively

  • Build resilience and healthier coping strategies

  • Navigate relationships, work, or education challenges

  • Explore identity and what being autistic means to you

  • Reduce self-criticism and improve self-esteem

  • Create boundaries that support your wellbeing

Rather than trying to change who you are, counselling focuses on helping you understand yourself more fully, identify your strengths, and find strategies that work for you.

There is no expectation to communicate in a particular way or to fit into a standard therapeutic model. Counselling is adapted to your needs, preferences, and communication style.

My Person-Centred Approach

My approach to counselling is grounded in Person-Centred Therapy and guided by a neuro-affirming understanding of autism.

I believe that you are the expert in your own experiences. My role is to provide a warm, accepting, and non-judgemental space where you feel safe to explore your thoughts, feelings, and challenges without pressure to mask or be anyone other than yourself.

Person-centred counselling recognises that meaningful change happens when people feel understood, respected, and empowered. Sessions are led by your needs and move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

I do not integrate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) strategies when working with autism as it conflicts with the logical, literal reasoning style used by those with autism.
