Are Relationship Difficulties Affecting Your Mental Health?

Relationships can be one of the most rewarding parts of life, but they can also be a source of stress, anxiety, and emotional pain when things aren't going well.

Whether you're experiencing difficulties with a partner, family member, friend, or navigating the aftermath of a breakup, relationship challenges can have a significant impact on your mental health and wellbeing.

You May Be Experiencing:

  • Constant arguments or conflict with a partner or loved one

  • Feeling lonely, disconnected, or misunderstood

  • Anxiety about your relationship or fear of abandonment

  • Difficulty trusting others after being hurt

  • Low mood or depression linked to relationship difficulties

  • Struggles with communication or expressing your needs

  • Feeling emotionally drained or overwhelmed

  • Loss of confidence or self-esteem

  • Jealousy, insecurity, or overthinking

  • Difficulty setting boundaries

  • Grief or sadness following a breakup or separation

  • Repeating unhealthy relationship patterns

  • Feeling stuck between your own needs and the expectations of others

Relationships can affect how we see ourselves and the world around us. When things are difficult, it can be hard to know what to do next or how to make sense of the emotions you're experiencing.

You may feel confused, hurt, angry, anxious, or exhausted. You may find yourself questioning your worth or wondering whether things will ever improve.

How I Can Help Through Counselling

Counselling offers a space where you can explore these experiences openly and without judgement.

Together, we can explore your experiences, understand the emotions involved, and identify patterns that may be contributing to your difficulties.

Counselling can help you:

  • Gain clarity about your relationships and what you need from them

  • Improve communication and express yourself more confidently

  • Understand patterns that may be affecting your relationships

  • Build healthier boundaries

  • Manage anxiety, stress, or low mood linked to relationship difficulties

  • Process feelings of grief, rejection, or betrayal

  • Strengthen self-esteem and self-worth

  • Develop healthier ways of coping with conflict

  • Explore fears around intimacy, trust, or vulnerability

  • Make decisions that feel right for you and your future

Counselling is not about telling you whether to stay in a relationship or leave it. Instead, it is about helping you understand yourself more deeply, explore your options, and make choices that align with your values and wellbeing.

My Person-Centred Approach with CBT Strategies

My approach to counselling is grounded in Person-Centred Therapy, which means I believe that you are the expert in your own life and experiences.

I offer a warm, empathic, and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly about your relationships, your feelings, and the challenges you're facing. Together, we explore your experiences at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

Relationship difficulties can often leave people feeling unheard, criticised, or unsure of themselves. Person-centred counselling aims to provide the acceptance and understanding that allows you to reconnect with your strengths, values, and sense of self.

Alongside this person-centred approach, I may also incorporate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) strategies where appropriate.

CBT can help you to:

  • Understand how thoughts, feelings, and behaviours influence your relationships

  • Recognise patterns of thinking that contribute to anxiety or conflict

  • Challenge negative beliefs about yourself or others

  • Manage overthinking, jealousy, or fear of rejection

  • Develop healthier communication skills

  • Learn practical strategies for coping with stress and difficult emotions

  • Build confidence and emotional resilience

  • Create healthier relationship habits and boundaries

By combining empathy and understanding with practical CBT tools, counselling can help you gain insight into your relationships while developing strategies that support lasting emotional wellbeing.
